Nothing comes close to the beauty and elegance of hardwood flooring. It can add warmth and character to any room. However, new hardwood flooring is a significant investment—one that you won’t be making every day. This is why you need to know the installation process so that the wood flooring is installed properly and can serve you for decades.

Wood Needs Time To Acclimatize

Wood, being a natural product, needs to acclimatize to the temperature and humidity of your home before it is installed. It should be left in its packaging, which allows it to keep the wooden boards keep their natural shape.

The time the wood will need to acclimatize will depend upon its type, and thus it is better to ask your supplier if you are unsure. The planks will contract and expand according to your temperature so that they can fit into your locking system.

Prepare The Subfloor

Your subfloor needs to be ready for you to install the flooring. This requires you to get rid of all the current flooring material for you to reach the subfloor. Some types of woods might be more difficult to remove than others.

Once you reach the subfloor, you will need to make sure you get rid of any sort of debris, particles, or adhesives, which might create an uneven surface.

Installation

Hardwood flooring

Traditionally, wood floorings are installed by nailing or stapling the boards down. Both methods work extremely well. How well the subfloor is primed actually decides the quality of installation.

Glue down is another popular modern method of installation. During this process, an adhesive is spread onto the subfloor, and then the wooden planks are laid onto it. This method can get messy and costly.

Floating hardwood is another process that uses adhesive. This process requires using a soft pad in between the boards as a cushion, which reduces the noise and increases comfort in the flooring. It is a relatively quick and simple installation process.

The Click-Loc method uses engineered planks, as they are joined together through groves, allowing them to bind together. There is no need for glue or nails, as this method can easily install hardwood without much effort.

Aftercare

Sweep or vacuum the floor to make sure that your floor looks new for a long time. Apply treatments such as wood floor wax or oil to maintain your flooring.
