People are head-over-heels for wooden floors right now—and why shouldn’t they be! They’re durable, easy to maintain and have unmatched aesthetics. With the market already being worth a whopping $4.6 billion, demand for wooden floors will continue to rise.
But how do you keep your hardwood floors looking as shiny as the day you had them installed? Here are some tips that’ll help you keep your floors in tip-top condition!
Vacuum Them
It’s natural for your floors to get covered in grime. Whether dust flies in through an open window or dirt flakes off the soles of your shoes, dirty floors are a sight for sore eyes. They can also impact your health—especially if you have allergies or asthma.
To prevent your beautiful wooden floors from looking dull, we recommend vacuuming them at least once every other day. Most vacuum cleaners come with special attachments like dust brushes that are ideal for getting debris out of tiny gaps.
If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, you can always sweep your floors. But be warned—sweeping might cause tiny rocks to scratch your floors’ finishing. That’s the last thing you want after investing big bucks in a gorgeous wooden floor!
Use a Mop and Floor Cleaner
Excessive moisture is bad for your floors; however, mopping your floors with a floor cleaner is essential. It’s also important to ensure your mop is damp, not wet, because wet mops will leave water stains that’ll ruin your wooden floor.
Use the Right Amount of Floor Wax
Waxing your hardwood floor is one of the best ways to restore its shine. However, using too much wax can have the opposite effect. If wax builds up on parts of your floor where foot traffic is low, then it’ll cause dull spots.
We recommend following the instructions on the back of the wax you’re using—even if it doesn’t seem like it’s enough. After applying the wax, use a microfiber cloth to buff your floors. It’ll pick up leftover grime and leave your floors gleaming.
