Dustless Sanding vs. Sandless Refinishing: Which One Is More Effective?

Normally, after hardwood floor installations, your contractor sands them to add a refinishing touch and is a big part of floor refinishing services. After sanding them finer, your hardwood floor exudes a raw appeal. Sanding creates dust and is a messy process with a lot of health hazards. Thanks to new refinishing methods, today homeowners do not require sanding their floors for refinishing.

Dustless Sand Refinishing

Traditionally, while refinishing the floor, homeowners would cover up their furniture and vacate their homes. It is messy to sand the wood down to its core, so many flooring companies offer a dustless sanding option. It involves stripping away the old refinishing and removing the flaws. Dustless sanding follows the same method as sanding the floor for refinishing, but it eliminates most of the dust from the process, thus preserving the indoor air quality. It isn’t completely dust-free, but specialized equipment is attached with the sander that sucks away the dust rather than releasing it into the air. You don’t need to clean up the dirt from your furniture and walls.

Dustless sanding is an excellent substitute for people with asthma and other respiratory problems. Dustless sanding is also quicker than sanding as the clean-up is taken care of for you.

Sandless Refinishing

Sandless refinishing is completely different than dustless sanding of the hardwood floors. As the name implies, the process does not involve the sanding for floor refinishing. Instead, the technician uses liquid screening to add a protective layer to your hardwood floor. The liquid removes the debris after hardwood floor installation, and because no sanding has taken place, little to no dust is produced.

Sandless makes sense when you have to remove old wax, paint splatters, polish, or any other minor stains from your floor. It is not effective against scratches, sun fade, or grey areas.

Making The Right Choice

Both methods are viable choices as they get the job done without polluting your indoor air quality. The dust particles in the air can trigger your allergies or any serious respiratory infections.

Dustless sanding is an almost dust-free substitute for sanding as it involves the restoration process of your hardwood floor. Dustless refinishing of your wood floors removes old stains and scratches and takes the wood down to its core.

Sandless refinishing, on the other hand, is a cosmetic touch-up for your hardwood floor. Sandless refinishing after hardwood floor installation makes sense when your wood floor is already in good condition.
